Investing in AI-Driven Fleet Safety to Support Our London Operations

As a business built on reliability, safety, and operational excellence, we’re continually looking for smarter ways to strengthen our service not just for today’s challenges, but for tomorrow’s demands.

That’s why we’ve taken a major step forward in modernising our fleet by partnering with Fleetclear, one of the UK’s leading vehicle safety technology providers. Their advanced, AI-driven Progressive Safety System (PSS) has now been installed across our vehicles operating in Greater London, ensuring we’re fully compliant with the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) and continuing to meet and exceed industry expectations.

This collaboration is not only about compliance. It’s about reinforcing the safety of our drivers, improving the wellbeing of all road users, and using smart data to run a leaner, greener, and more efficient logistics operation.

Meeting DVS Standards with Confidence

For any logistics provider operating in or around London, DVS compliance isn’t optional; it’s essential. With more stringent regulations coming into effect, fleet operators are required to meet higher safety standards to legally enter the capital.

By working with Fleetclear, we’ve installed a unified safety system that integrates the latest AI camera technology, blind spot detection, warning alerts, and data capture tools, all designed to give our drivers greater visibility and awareness on the road.

“Fleetclear not only installed the PSS equipment on our vehicles incredibly quickly, but they also guided us through the entire compliance process with TfL,” says Martin Cartwright, our Transport Manager. “They provided everything we needed to prove compliance, including installation certificates and photographic evidence.”

This has allowed us to maintain our London groupage strategy without disruption, giving customers a seamless, reliable delivery experience.

One System, Total Visibility

One of the key benefits of the Progressive Safety System is its ability to streamline multiple technologies into a single platform, reducing driver workload, improving ease of use, and enabling our management team to access fleet data in real-time.

At the heart of this system is Fleetclear Connect, a secure, web-based portal that centralises vehicle footage, GPS tracking, driver behaviour data, and telematics insights. It’s helping us not only ensure compliance but also to actively manage and optimise the performance of our entire fleet.

“Standardising with Fleetclear improves efficiency across our operations,” says Joshua Phillips, our Finance Director. “The Connect platform gives us deeper operational insight and makes data analysis simple. We’ll be using it to support smarter decisions on routing, fuel use, and even training, all of which contribute to lower emissions and a more sustainable business.”

Supporting Our Growth in London and Beyond

This technology upgrade is just one part of a broader investment strategy that’s powering our next phase of growth. With our new purpose-built HQ and logistics facility in Banbury, we’re consolidating operations, creating jobs, and rolling out modern systems to support customers across the UK and beyond.

As part of our commitment to future-ready logistics, we’re also:

  • Running our fleet on HVO fuel, a cleaner-burning alternative to diesel, derived from sustainable sources.
  • Upgrading vehicles and IT systems to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  • Upskilling our drivers and team members, so they have the tools and knowledge to perform at their best.

Safety has always been at the heart of our operations, from warehouse protocols to road safety and compliance. With Fleetclear’s support, we’re taking that commitment further, ensuring every mile we travel is supported by the latest in vehicle safety and operational intelligence.

“Ralph Davies International prioritises safety across every area of their business,” says Mike Crowther, Business Development Director at Fleetclear. “We’re thrilled to be supporting them as they standardise our technology across their growing fleet.”

A Smarter, Safer, More Sustainable Future

As we continue to expand and evolve as a business, these strategic partnerships and investments are key to helping us scale responsibly. Whether we’re delivering to central London or regional distribution hubs, we believe in combining high-performance logistics with best-in-class safety and sustainability practices.

The logistics sector is changing rapidly, driven by legislation, customer expectations, and the global push for lower-emission transport. By proactively upgrading our fleet, streamlining our operations, and embracing smart technology, we’re positioning ourselves to lead the way in safe, efficient, and future-focused food logistics.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and even more excited about what’s ahead.
